WCN CC Stronger Together to Overcome Difficulties in COVID-19 Period

With the continuous expansion of the spread of the epidemic, on March 11,Changchun epidemic prevention and control headquarters issued the policy and required "enterprises and institutions to stop operation; stop all unnecessary flows; and complete nucleic acid testing with high quality", officially launching the crucial battle of "closed management" in the city.

As soon as the government notice was issued, Webasto (Changchun) immediately established the task force team, involving MD, Senior Manager Administration Public Affair, Operator Manager, Manager Quality, Manager Purchase, HSE and Manager Human Resources&Administration and held an emergency meeting to actively cooperate with the government's epidemic prevention work and discuss the emergency plan. The management coordinated and assigned tasks at the first time, and formulated multiple emergency records in a short time.

Daily task force team meeting is held for information exchange and track the latest control policies, customer and material information and personnel and material reserves in real time, and give instructions on adjusting the response plan.

On March 14, EVP China Davy Zhang, VP Operations David Feng and China board members held a meeting with the Changchun management team to guide and care about the epidemic prevention and production preparation in Changchun. David pointed out that "at present, epidemic prevention is the primary task, and we must do a good job in epidemic prevention".

The epidemic prevention policies of the government are constantly adjusted and upgraded. The Senior Public Affairs Manager clarified the policy at the first time, actively communicated with the government and obtained the emergency materials pass to ensure the smooth passage of logistics vehicles and loop buses of the company and suppliers. As the epidemic situation became more and more severe, the management interpreted the first-hand management and control consultation, and timely adjusted the emergency plan to ensure the maximization of company interests.

According to government policy, the company urges and advocates employees to carry out all inspections, adhere to all intervals, adhere to the closed operation of the smallest unit and grid closed-loop management. We strengthen safety control, carry out epidemic prevention and safety training for employees on site, sign safety notices for all employees, make every effort to ensure the physical and mental health and safety of employees to ensure production, and build a safety barrier for all employees of Webasto. BD&S communicates with customers in time, pays close attention to customers' production arrangements, and actively cooperates with customers' epidemic prevention policies and data collection, and timely feedback the changes of clients to the interior. Understand the internal resource reserves in real time and actively strive for production time for Changchun plant. We actively communicates resources and handled emergency material passes to provide guarantee for customers' production as much as possible. During this period, we keep delivery for BBAC 206, 247 projects and BBA G38 project. Besides, we actively prepared for the production recovery for FAW-VW AU380 project.

SCM department timely investigated the production capacity of raw material suppliers, understand the changes of customer demand and road transportation status, constantly adjust the balance sheet and production plan, and make emergency records in advance for the reduction of production capacity caused by the failure of timely return of racks or personnel isolation. In order to prevent and control the epidemic situation, we adopted the non-contact process for truck drivers, strengthened the management of third-party personnel and the incoming material disinfection policy. In the face of shutdown of many plants in and around Changchun, shortage of raw materials, short age of personnel, obstruction of long-distance transportation of finished products and heavy snow weather, supply chain management are always vigilant and try their best to meet customer needs day and night.

HR department started the dynamic monitoring of personnel info and timely understood the health and quanterine status of each employee, as well as the preparation for production recovery. We organize a series of anxiety release on-line training, hope to assist all employees to delimite the anxiety during quanterine.

To ensure the orderly production under closed management, Admin and purchase colleagues quickly purchase bedding, hygiene products and other necessary life materials.?

Colleagues from Admin and Production department coordinated, placed and distributed all kinds of materials overnight, did disinfection in public areas and the security, cleaning, canteen and shuttle bus service personnel fought with us 24 hours todo a good job in logistics support. Admin colleagues keep the daily communication and survey with the on-site operators to collect their demand and do quick response. Despite of the difficult situation to purchase vegetables and others in Changchun market, enough goods and foods are reserved in plant.

On March 25th, MD and related managers organized online communication meeting with those group employees to deliver appreciation, understand their situation and ask for their demand.

Till now, office staff are do home office. Nearly one hundred of operators and adminservice staff, including canteen, cleaning, guard, driver and others voluntarily stay atcompany under grid management for the closed management of production to ensurethe necessary production and delivery.

I hope everything goes well with you.

Since the end of February, COVID-19 has been spring back throughout Jilin province. Successively, Changchun government released a series of policies to do the epidemic prevention and control. At the first time, our management team held an emergency meeting to actively cooperate with the government's epidemic prevention work and discuss the internal emergency plan. We experience the most severe and challenging time together.

Company have established the task force team with dynamic management method to face all various changes and difficulties, daily update the information to closely understand COVID-19 situation, prevention measures, government policies and get support from government and customers, customer demand, supplier situation, production delivery, purchase emergency stuff, people caring, admin service, and the most important one is company daily take care and follow up employees health status. We are happy to hear that all of us are healthy now.

We sincerely thanks the colleagues who work in task force team, you work very hard, nearly 24 hours stand by, teamwork everywhere and every time, you could solve all issues and urgent case together with very fast speed, as your great efforts and contributions, company operation is smoothly running, which greatly interprets the spirit of teamwork and our high efficiency.

We deeply respect and appreciate the employees and admin suppliers from Canteen, Cleaning, Security Guards and Shuttle Bus who separate with their families in this hard time and always put Webasto first, live in plant for COVID-19 prevention and ensure delivery. I hope everything goes well with you.

In this special Covid-19 situation, in order to let all employees understand what happened in time, I will keep you updated and shared the latest information with you.

Firstly, I would like share with you all our employees are in good health and 99% employees finished the 6-round PCR test.

Since March 26th, government further strengthened the management and control policy, hereby hope every employee could positively and cooperate follow government measures.

From company side, the task force team daily organize meeting to follow up government policy, latest prevention requirements, customer demand, supplier and delivery status, and also take care every employees’ health status.

Until now, there are 82 employees, 3 outsourcing staff and 12 Admin service suppliers who live in plant to ensure the production and delivery. Enough goods and foods are reserved to ensure the living security.

Today, the good news is 8 operators and 1 cleaning staff are released from quarantine in company, with negative results during PCR test, they could be back to production and work.

On March 25th, related managers and myself organize online communication meeting with those group employees to deliver appreciation, understand their situation and ask for their demand.

Besides, we also actively response to meet requirement from BBAC and also join FA-VW AU 380 project production recovery preparation survey. We must be prepared at any time.

And influenced by the Covid-19, the materials are shortage, the delivery also meet different difficulties, but company is closely contacted with government and customer to get support and solve problems in time.

During this period, FAW-VW Service Bureau visited Webasto to inspect the epidemic prevention and the resumption preparation and government did secret inspections.

From March 14, office staff started home office and closed production was implement in plant. All staff of Webasto Changchun had been fighting together for over 50 days. Finally, we achieved the comprehensive production recovery on May 5th.

Hope all is well.

Recently we have received good news one piece after another. Changchun basically cleared the infected cases in dynamic society and some colleagues returned to the company.

Jilin province governor and related officers visited company on Apr. 14th to supervise and guide our recovery preparation onsite. We were highly recognized. With the support of government and customer, the qualified recovery staff got the outing permission.

Till now, 200 colleagues live in plant for work, including 170 Webasto colleagues, 16 from admin suppliers and 14 from logistic third party. Company continues the closed and grid management.

Besides, we expect to accommodate 48 staff more in the next days to prepare for further delivery.

In advance, we purchased a new batch of living materials including bed and personal hygiene products. Water, food and fruit are adequate. Due to more people, we should further strengthen the management during this specific period.

This is a crucial step to win this “battle” and we believe we are near to the success.

Thanks for all colleagues both for those who are in plant and those who do home office. I am fully aware of your hardworking to respond and adapt to the precipitate changes for a long time. We are always together.

Till now, more than 300 colleagues get back to work including Webasto colleagues, admin suppliers and logistic third party.

Local authority and customer coordinated and supported us for the application to take the Xihu school as our external dormitory. According to the government guidance for recovery, with shuttle bus, we can start the policy of “1 to 1 transportation” between dormitory and company.

Yesterday, we disinfected the living area thoroughly, investigated and coordinated the staff in urgent. This morning, another 88 colleagues get out from community and live in school from today. The local authority makes PCR test for all staff. They will be involved in company production after 3-day “quiescent status” under closed management. At the same time, all living materials are already prepared and arrived.

Hereby, I especially appreciate the colleagues and suppliers who separate with their families and voluntarily participate in the Webasto production recovery. Meanwhile, I also thank the colleagues who do home office with a lot of overtime. Your effort and contributions are the best interpretation of Webasto core values!

Besides, officers from Changchun Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone visited us for several times and delivered bottles of mineral water. With their great support, our production is recovering smoothly.

Under the guidance of Changchun municipal government and medical staff, all the staff of Webasto (Changchun) are united in overcoming difficulties. After more than 50 days of separation, we finally get together again today!

The struggle of the past two months has been our most severe test since the outbreak of COVID-19. The local government attached great importance to the company's operation during the epidemic. The governor of Jilin Province visited the site to supervise and guide the preparations for the resumption of work and production. Governments at all levels spoke highly of the company. Coordinated medical care, donated materials, they provided all-round help to resume work and production.

New Training Approach during Isolation

During the home office period, CC plant organized 19 training courses in total, including professional psychological courses, NHO training, CMM measurement, PU layout, etc., with a total of 263 training hours, involving 392 person-times.

To release the anxiety of our employee and their families, HR organized a series of courses conducted by professional psychological consultants with half a month duration. The training program had been well recognized by colleagues with great enthusiasm to participate. They feedback that the training was arranged really in time under current situation. The sharing relieved their mood and teached them how to get along with families in quarantine.

Orientation trainings for new comers were arranged accordingly. Trainers were careful in teaching, real-time communication and smooth interaction to help new employees better meet the new positions and new challenges. Although no face-to-face communication, the trainees really felt the preciseness and enthusiasm of the trainers.

Thanks for My Little Angel

On March 12, 2022, Changchun government issued an emergency epidemic prevention and control policy. As one of HSE, I was instantly sucked into the hurricane and started a high-intensity rotation. I worked almost every day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tracked the epidemic prevention and control requirements, dealt with various emergencies, and immediately updated the epidemic prevention and control plan if there was any sign of trouble. I could answer and make up to 200 calls every day. The bathroom, living room, bedroom and restaurant were all my battlefields. Now when I think back, I am surprised that I have experienced such a home office time.

On March 24, the management and control were comprehensively upgraded. My 7-year-old daughter and I accompanied each other at home. The whole day's meetings often made me unable to prepare meals on time, checked her online homework, or played with her for a while. Too much work pressure made me lose my temper with her from time to time, complaining about her mischief or the completion of her homework. I always felt guilty and reluctant to give up when calmed down, but my little angel not only never complained, but also silently supported me around.

Seeing that I had no time for breakfast, she spread jam on the bread slices, cut them and put them on the table. At noon, I saw her carrying a stool into the kitchen and standing on the stool to cook noodles for me while I was in a meeting. Although sometimes it was salty or not cooked, I thought it was the most delicious food in the world. The little guy would make me a fruit plate and put on a good-looking look, which calmed my anxiety.

In the evening, I was ready to wash after a meeting. I could always see the squeezed toothpaste and the prepared foot wash. Sometimes, before I finished my work, she would curl up in the nearest place to sleep. At countless such nights, she accompanied me, which made me moved and distressed.

On May 8, I had the most meaningful Mother’s Day. This is my first holiday after two months of busy work. My daughter is my best Mother’s Day gift. On May 27, WCN CC held an appreciation meeting for administrative suppliers to express heartfelt thanks to the five administrative suppliers who continued to provide resident services during the epidemic. Managing Director CC&SY Ralf, Manager Human Resources&Adminstration Cathy Zhao, management personnel of canteen, cleaning, security, shuttle bus and maintenance suppliers and employees with special contributions attended the meeting.

Ralf would like to express his gratitude to all suppliers for their sincere cooperation as always and for their tireless efforts to overcome difficulties. Cathy took everyone to review the special contributions and photo collections of various suppliers during the epidemic period, and reviewed the details of Webasto (Changchun) united to fight the epidemic in the form of video. Record of Fighting Epidemic in SY plant

Since the March, COVID-19 is on the rise in Shenyang. The SY plant management team held an emergency meeting at the first time to actively cooperate with the government in epidemic prevention and discuss the internal emergency plan. In order to prevent employees from being unable to reach the factory in their residence, the management made a quick decision and decided to live in a hotel and implement the "two points and one line" commuting mode to ensure production. After receiving the information, the production department, me, SCM and QA operation departments immediately found out the prevention and control policies of employees' residences, counted the information of residents, and the administration department contacted the surrounding hotels at the first time to arrange logistics support. On that night, all the people who should be accommodated were completed to ensure the smooth progress of production.

On April 2, a week later, we went through a very difficult period. Everyone was isolated at home. Shenyang City issued orders No. 37 to 42 intensively. The good news is that we can apply to the government for partial resumption of work and production. The management team held a preparatory meeting overnight to organize preparations for resumption of work. The HR&Admin made statistics and submitted an application to the government; the production department mobilizes the employees who can live in the factory. The purchase department urgently purchases the emergency materials. SCM contacts the materials to the factory, EHS deploys the factory epidemic prevention plan, and the ME\QA and other departments are ready to staff the factory at any time. Under the strict approval and supervision of the local epidemic prevention and control headquarters, on April 3, the first batch of our 66 "Warriors" composed of various departments successfully entered the factory and began orderly recovery production.

On April 12, Shenyang COVID-19 issued Circular No. 48, and the epidemic prevention and control work achieved a phased victory. More employees can reach the factory. In some areas, the "two points and one line" mode of work can be restored. Since our orderly resumption of production.

I have seen the Admin, HSE and Purchasing departments actively communicate with the government and make unremitting efforts for the health, safety and comfortable environment of employees;I have seen engineers from ME and QA live in the plant personally and work all day and night for improving product quality performance in the initial stage of new project SOP;I have also seen all home office colleagues work autonomously while taking care of their children……

On April 18, the morning was sunny. More than 230 employees of the factory returned to their jobs. They said hello to each other, talked about the difficulties in the past month, comforted and encouraged each other, and their faces were full of joy after the victory. This is inseparable from the efforts made by various departments, especially the front-line employees have stuck to their posts for many days, which is very difficult. During this special period of epidemic prevention and control, we have witnessed the great power of all colleagues to unite as one, be friendly and warm. We have seen that they have built the company's most solid defense line with practical actions, regardless of gains and losses, regardless of conditions, without difficulties, day and night.

The HR&Admin Team Insists on Providing Logistical Support

Although the large-scale outbreak in Shenyang since March has passed, the HR&Admin team still remembers the hard working in the nervous moments.

On March 16, according to the emergency epidemic prevention meeting, more than 50 employees needed to live in the hotel that night. Most hotels were closed, and some were requisitioned by the government. The HR& Admin colleague, Yang Yufei looked for hotels one by one within 10 kilometers. Eventually, all the employees lived in hotel.

As the epidemic became serious, everyone was quarantined at home. The HR&Admin team collect daily information on the epidemic and follow up the news of the government's return to work. On April 2, the partial resumption could be applied for, the team studied the plan overnight, prepared separately, collected employee information quarantined and provided application materials to the government. The original canteen couldn't deliver food, HR& Admin colleague, Sharon immediately started the standby canteen supplier and special lunch for alternative to ensure everyone eat well. To provide better service, the security and cleaning team also lived in the plant, arranged disinfection and Covid-19 test every day. When one operator suffered from hemorrhoids, Sharon urgently contacted suppliers to buy medicine at midnight.

April comes as usual. Shenyang plant finally gets government’s approval to conduct a closed production after great effort. In accordance with government's requirements on epidemic prevention, SCM guys firmly choose to “get back to work and devote themselves to the work” To ensure material supply, SCM guys have overcame lots of difficulties and successfully get 161 P/Ns from 31 suppliers arrived on time. They keep working day and night, tracking raw materials every hour, monitoring suppliers’ production every day. They always work till mid night. Due to severe epidemic situation, supply chain is seriously impacted by road control. SCM manager Kathy has tried every best to coordinate all sources for transportation. When the truck encountered municipal strict inspection on highway, SCM guys even go to unload raw materials on site at mid night。To meet government requirement and guarantee safety, SCM guys disinfect raw materials one by one carefully, strictly implementing the standards. In early March 2022, local COVID-19 outbreaks occurred successively in Shenyang. In order to scientifically, accurately and effectively prevent and control the epidemic, SY plant HSE policy updates at any time according to the government's policy and regional risk grade change, we investigated the personnel who confirmed the daily movement track of the case inside the factory, found the overlap, and immediately isolated to ensure the safety of SY plant. The SY plant was required to suspend production.We updated the status of our staff every day, held information exchange meetings of the epidemic action team every day, checked the prevention and control standards of the staff living area, updated the details of quarantined personnel and nucleic acid testing. We continued to update the management measures for the resumption of work, made emergency plans, ensured the availability of epidemic prevention and control materials, conducted an epidemic prevention and control safety education and training for all staff, and still ensure that all staff have nucleic acid tests every two days after the resumption of work.

With the support of leaders in China, PGM and German colleagues, The BBG parts were successfully delivered to BMW in Germany.

Quality is the base of the product. During the epidemic period, 5 employees of the Quality Department resolutely joined the heroes diving into harm’s way.

"During the epidemic period, it was not in full production, but we got work full of hands every day. But it happened that during the epidemic period, the small CMM went on strike, and the maintenance personnel of the equipment manufacturer were locked down and unable to go to the site for maintenance. Guo Jifei, a member of the G38PU team, had just had a baby in April. He wanted to spend the May Day holiday with his family, but PU workshop was short of staff. He decided to return to the production post and spend the emergency period with the plant. Guo Jifei has been in SY plant for nearly five years. In these five years, he has grown from a trainee who does not know how to assemble skylights to a multi-skilled operator who can now lead apprentices. When asked about his thoughts on the epidemic, he smiled with a mask and said, "I have been in Webasto for more than four years. It gave me confidence to settle down in Shenyang and have a lovely baby. Now it needs me, and I will stick to it and spend this period with the plant."

Emergency Procurement during Epidemic

The outbreak was so sudden that many emergency supplies were in short supply and all of them were made for urgent procurement. However, our procurement department did not step back in the face of difficulties, but rose to the occasion and overcame them. COVID-19 epidemic, request 55 employees in the factory, the day will provide 55 sets of bed and daily necessities, most shops closed at that time, a lot of goods cannot be shipped to shenyang, we call each supplier, ask somebody else to find goods warehouse, some suppliers fear the disease spread is not willing to go out, we will ask for impending nuptials, Finally, collect several goods to meet the needs of the user department.
